INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM, ONE OF LEARNING METHODS IN ALSEBAYA

written by Ms. Erika Narullita Sari, S.Kom., S.Pd.

Verily in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of the night and the day there are signs for people of understanding “(namely) those who remember Allah while standing or sitting or lying down and they think about the creation of the heavens and the earth ( said: “Our Lord, You did not create this in vain, Glory be to You, so save us from the torment of Hell. O our Lord, verily, whoever You put into Hell, You have truly humiliated him, and there is not for the wrongdoers a helper. (QS. Ali Imran verse 190-192)

Technology allows instant access to information, which makes its presence in the classroom important. Smartphones, computers, and tablets are already part of the needs in daily life for students and teachers. It makes sense that the use of technological devices in the classroom would be considered to create meaningful learning experiences for students of all ages. Using different types of technology in the classroom, encourages learners to actively engage with learning goals. The introduction of technology also creates pathways for differentiated instruction to meet the unique needs of students as individual learners in the broader classroom environment.

HOW TO INTEGRATE TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM?

Using technology during whole-class instruction can increase student engagement among auditory and visual learners. Integrating simple technologies such as presentation tools, games, internet homework, and online assessment systems is critical to student development in the classroom. In Al Azhar, we are using Moodle as our Learning Management System (LMS). The students can access their learning resources, summaries and exercises from teachers, and also doing their mid and final assessments through https://sd.salam-alazhar.id/.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO INTEGRATE TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM?

Teachers often find success by providing opportunities to use technology in the classroom. Some may argue that the use of technology in education has a variety of benefits and effects, and not all of them are positive. Although an unlimited flow of information and entertainment at any given time may seem distracting, using technology in the classroom can be easier if the technology is integrated into the classroom and routines are put in place where it is monitored or evaluated.

Keeping students engaged

Active engagement is a key part of any lesson plan. Whether students are working independently or collaboratively, technology engages students because it is interactive.

Helps students with different learning styles

Not all students learn and retain information in the same way or at the same speed. Technology offers teachers the opportunity  to differentiate instruction and adapt information to students’ appropriate learning abilities. Technology also allows students to study at their own pace.

Prepare students with life skills

Technology is used so often in daily life that it has become a form of literacy  in itself. Many professionals use at least one aspect of Microsoft Office or Google Drive every day. That means adjusting budgets in spreadsheets, creating presentation materials and slideshows, and attaching documents to emails to communicate important information. Helping students  learn and develop these skills will prepare them for life outside the classroom.
